One fresh puzzle a day, and a streak that's on your side

Pentire's Today's Puzzle is the same picture for everyone on Earth on a given date. The streak that comes with it banks Shields as you play, covers a missed day quietly, and never puts your streak up for sale.

There's a particular pleasure in a puzzle that's fresh every morning and shared with everyone else. The daily ritual — one new thing, the same for the whole world, small enough to finish with your coffee — turned out to be one of the best ideas in games. It gives a day a little shape. It gives you something to compare notes on. And because there's exactly one, it never turns into an endless scroll.

Pentire has one: Today's Puzzle, a featured pick from the built-in library of 60 original puzzles. It's identical for every player worldwide on a given calendar date, and a new pick appears at your local midnight — so your "today" is your today, whether that's Tokyo or Tucson. Finish it and the day is marked.

The problem with streaks, honestly

Most daily games attach a streak to the ritual, and most streaks are built to punish. One missed day — a flight, a fever, a Tuesday that got away from you — and months of quiet consistency vanish to zero. Some games will then offer to sell the streak back, which tells you what the streak was really for. The result is a strange inversion: a game you started playing to unwind becomes a small obligation humming in the background of every evening. If keeping the number alive matters more than enjoying the puzzle, the streak has defeated the point.

We like streaks. A visible record of "I made a little time for this every day" is genuinely nice to have. So Pentire keeps the record and removes the punishment.

How Pentire's streak actually works

The whole design fits in a few sentences, and every one of them is deliberate:

  • Finishing any puzzle marks the day. Today's Puzzle counts, but so does a photo puzzle, a generated scene, or anything from the library. The streak measures showing up, not obedience.
  • You start with two Shields. From day one, before you've earned anything, you can miss two days without losing a thing.
  • Every completed day banks a Shield, up to a cap of two. Playing regularly keeps the bank full.
  • A missed day is covered quietly and automatically. No alarm, no guilt screen, no "act now" — a Shield is spent behind the scenes and your streak simply continues.
  • A gap bigger than the bank resets the streak — without consuming your Shields. If the streak can't be saved, Pentire won't burn your Shields failing to save it. They stay banked for the next run, so you never restart from a worse position than you began.

And the line that matters most: nothing about streaks is for sale. No coins, no streak repairs, no boosts, and no leaderboards to be shamed down. There is no mechanism in the app by which a lapsed streak produces revenue, which means there's no incentive for the app to make lapsing feel bad.

Your streak is yours alone

The streak is computed and stored entirely on your device. Pentire has no analytics, so the developer cannot see your streak, your longest run, or whether you played today — nobody is watching the number but you. There's no account and no server behind it; delete the app and the streak goes with it.

Reminders follow the same rule. If you want them, there are two, both purely local notifications scheduled on your device — no push server, no push token: a daily reminder at a time you pick, and an evening warning that fires only on a day your streak would actually end. No warning fires on a day a Shield has covered, because there's nothing to warn you about. And the app only asks for notification permission when you explicitly tap to turn reminders on.

The ritual beyond the number

Today's Puzzle is a pick, not a prescription. The same picture can be played at any of Pentire's five difficulties — from a 12-sticker Starter to a 220-piece Expert — so your daily five minutes and someone else's daily hour can be the same puzzle. Finished it and want another angle? Any puzzle can be re-cut at any time to a different difficulty, piece shape, or art look, and each combination keeps its own saved progress. And because every built-in puzzle can be shared as a short code, "you have to try today's" is one message away — the friend who opens your code gets the exact same puzzle, cut the same way.

Yes. Pentire's day streak is protected by Shields: you start with two, and every day you complete a puzzle banks another, up to a cap of two. If you miss a day, a Shield covers it quietly and automatically — no popup, no penalty, no purchase.
Yes. Today's Puzzle is a featured pick from Pentire's built-in library of 60 puzzles, and it's identical for every player worldwide on a given calendar date. A new pick appears at your local midnight, so wherever you are, the day changes when your day changes.
If you have two Shields banked, both days are covered automatically and your streak continues as if nothing happened. If the gap is bigger than your Shield bank — say you miss two days with only one Shield saved — the streak resets, but your Shields aren't consumed on a streak that couldn't be saved. They stay banked for your next run.
No. Nothing about streaks in Pentire is for sale — no streak repairs, no coins, no boosts, and no leaderboards to fall down. Shields are earned only by playing: every completed day banks one, up to two. If a streak ends, the only way back is the pleasant one — finish a puzzle today and start again.
No. Both reminders are purely local notifications scheduled by the app on your device — there's no push server and no push token. You can turn on a daily reminder at a time you pick, and an evening warning that fires only on a day your streak would actually end. Notification permission is asked for only when you explicitly tap to enable them, and your streak itself is computed and stored on-device, with no account and no sign-in.
